About

Elisa Balmaceda (b.1985) works as an interdisciplinary artist, researcher and teacher. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts (Universidad Católica de Chile) and a MA in Media Arts (Academy of Media Arts Cologne).

In her practice, Balmaceda is interested in investigating the intersections of nature, technology, materiality, the human body and the occult. Her latest work explores the post-natural landscape in the extractivist technosphere we live in, seeking to de-construct the invisible architectures where human infrastructure and non-human entities co-exist and are intertwined with each other. Her practice also investigates the cosmic influence of the sun on human –energy consuming- society and its impact on our cultural notions of time–space, as well as the way technological development and science shape our conception of the real, the unknown and the imaginary.
