About

Elisa Balmaceda works as an experimental and multidisciplinary artist, researcher and teacher. She is interested in the politics and poetics of the visible and the invisible, exploring and bringing together fields such as public space, handcrafts, machines, infrastructures, cosmology, waste, landscape, occultism and magical thinking. Her latest work investigates the materiality of light, energy and communication technologies and the extent to which it shapes current notions of time and space, as well as our conception of the real and the imaginary.

Currently, she works on a one-year art project as a fellow artist at the RWE/Innogy Foundation for Energy and Society. In addition, she also collaborates with a team developing projects of art and architecture in public space, and she prepares several exhibition-projects that will take place in Chile, Germany and the former Yugoslavia between 2017-2018. Her last exhibition was recently shown at Matjö – Raum für Kunst (BBK Cologne), occasion where she was awarded the KHM-Women Artist Award (2016) given each year to graduate artists from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.
